Shiregreen

Shiregreen URC is a small Christian community set within a large (formerly council) housing estate in the Northwest corner of Sheffield. The multi-use buildings and grounds are enclosed within Valentine Crescent – hence the website address: https://www.valentinechurch.online/

We are a small worshipping community with a flexible view of what it means to be church.  Our aim is to be Good News for the residents of Shiregreen and its environs. Our constant drive is to become a Hospitable Space for all who pass through our gates – as expressed in our Vision blog on our website.

Our worship and spiritual reflections are informal and avoid set liturgy and language. We use story and images to stimulate discussion and response to Jesus as the central focus of our church life and work.

We have a small, but committed, bunch of volunteers who currently staff a Social Café on a Tuesday morning and offer minibus transport and a hot lunch to older people on a Wednesday. We have recently appointed a part-time Children, Youth and Families worker who has started a Toddlers Group on a Thursday morning and created strong links with the large, local primary school.

One of our members is a qualified Play and Creative Arts Therapist and offers free sessions to children and adults with issues. We have a dedicated demountable building in the grounds where she practices three afternoons each week.

We are registered as an Eco-church and as a Warm Space where we offer hospitality to everyone during our Tuesday morning café sessions.
